Since inception in 2006, the Garden of Dreams Foundation has hosted its annual Talent Show at Radio City Music Hall. Each year, more than 100 young people from various Garden of Dreams partner organizations are provided the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate their unique voices and perform their talents on the Great Stage in front of family and friends.
This year, while the Talent Show has been postponed, the spirit of the show is still being kept alive and bringing joy to Garden of Dreams performers during a time when we all need it most. The Garden of Dreams Alumni Ensemble, joined by mentor Wé McDonald, performed “Rise Up” by Andra Day.
Recently, Broadway star Christina Sajous led a virtual rehearsal for four of the Talent Show performers, providing feedback and encouragement via video conference to perform monologues and songs- watch the video below!
Founding member of hip-hop group, RUN D.M.C., and Garden of Dreams Board Member, Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels surprised three of this year’s Talent Show performers with a virtual rehearsal. During the rehearsal, the young people had the opportunity to perform their original raps in front of one of the original hip hop pioneers himself. Darryl was able to provide his expertise and feedback to the young performers – watch the video below!
