Thanksgiving Dinners 2019

This November, the New York Rangers and New York Knicks both hosted Thanksgiving Dinners with Garden of Dreams, serving 250 children and families at each dinner from the NYC Department of Homeless Services.

The Rangers held their Thanksgiving Dinner at SPIN NYC, a ping pong social club in Manhattan. Rangers players Adam Fox, Brett Howden, and Greg McKegg joined to help serve dinner and to interact with the families. With lots of activities to choose from including life size Jenga and UNO, video games, interactive photo booth, and of course ping pong, our Garden of Dreams young people had a blast throughout the night.

During the Knicks Thanksgiving Dinner, our Garden of Dreams families from NYC Department of Homeless Services as well as families from Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley celebrated the holiday dinner in Westchester at the Tarrytown Estate on the Hudson. Complete with a live band, DJ, doughnut wall, and basketball pop-a-shot games, families enjoyed an evening full of fun with Knicks players Damyean Dotson, Kevin Knox, Marcus Morris, Frank Ntilikina, Elfrid Payton, Bobby Portis, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson.

Garden of Dreams at Junior Knicks and Junior Rangers Camp 2019

This summer, over the course of eight weeks, 65 youth from various Garden of Dreams partner organizations participated in the Junior Knicks and Junior Rangers Summer Camps. Not only do the all-star players get to hone their skills with top training, but they also learn from current Knicks and Rangers players as well as alumni and coaching staff. Garden of Dreams Week 2018

Starting December 10th, the Garden of Dreams Foundation comes together with The Madison Square Garden Company and MSG Networks, Inc. to celebrate the Foundation’s work during Garden of Dreams Week. Throughout the week, children from across the tri-state area become honorary members of the Knicks and Rangers, participate in game-night activities and learn choreography from the world-renowned Rockettes. The week also features the Foundation’s Giving Program and a Day of Service for employees of MSG and MSG Networks.

Garden of Dreams also hosts an Adopt-A-Family program, where MSG and MSG Networks employees help fulfill the holiday wishes of families either living in homeless shelters or transitional housing. This year, Garden of Dreams Adopt-A-Family program is partnering with Children’s Aid to assist 150 families this holiday season.

Rangers ‘Be A Hero’ Day

On October 9th, Garden of Dreams and the New York Rangers joined forces for “Be A Hero Day” where local heroes from the NYPD, FDNY and Wounded Warrior Project worked with our children to show them what it takes to be “Be A Hero” for a day! Over 150 children from our partner organizations Harlem Dowling, New York Edge and WHEDco split between the Police Academy, Fire Academy and Intrepid Museum to learn more about their duties and responsibilities.

At the Police Academy, children from Harlem Dowling as well as Rangers players Neal Pionk and Brett Howden experienced a training course for cadets, a mock courtroom, and police cars. At the Fire Academy, Rangers player Vinni Lettieri and children from New York Edge learned how to put out a car fire, to use a fire hose, save someone from a building, and save someone in a subway car. For the Intrepid Museum, our kids from WHEDco and Rangers player Tony DeAngelo toured the aircraft carrier with warriors from Wounded Warrior Project and veterans who served on the USS Intrepid.

Giving Program: PAL Harlem Center

On September 20th, the Garden of Dreams Giving Program unveiled a newly renovated space at Police Athletic League’s Harlem Center. The Foundation provided $1.1 million to renovate the gymnasium, atrium, and game room for the children that use this space.

This ribbon cutting was hosted by MSG Networks reporter Jill Martin, and included appearances by the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, Knicks City Dancers, Rockettes, KNX Gaming, Knicks legend John Starks and Rangers legend Rod Gilbert! The Knicks City Dancers surprised Talent Show alumnae, Harlem PAL Showstoppers, and the Showstoppers taught the KCD part of their dance. The two groups performed the Harlem PAL Showstoppers’ routine “Soldiers of Dance” to kick off the ribbon cutting.

Over 200 youth from the Harlem Center enjoyed a Junior Knicks basketball clinic, Junior Rangers street hockey clinic, photo booth with the Rockettes, inflatables and so much more while celebrating this new space.

Vinnie’s Wish with the Rangers

Vinnie, from partner Make-A-Wish New Jersey, fulfilled his wish by getting to skate with his favorite player, Mats Zuccarello. Vinnie and his family arrived to the Rangers Training Center to watch his favorite player and team practice for their upcoming game. After practice, Vinnie joined Zuccarello and some of the other Rangers on the ice. Vinnie challenged Zuccarello to a race…almost beating him! The group then took a tour of the locker room at the Training Facility and Zuccarello presented Vinnie with a personalized Rangers jersey. The following night, Vinnie, his family and friends enjoyed the Rangers-Flames game from a catered suite. Afterwards, Vinnie congratulated Zuccarello on the Rangers win in the locker room and capped off his memorable experience with one last photo with his favorite player.

During the annual Garden of Dreams Week, the Garden of Dreams Foundation comes together with The Madison Square Garden Company and MSG Networks, Inc. to use the power and magic of MSG and MSG Networks – including the Knicks, Rangers, Liberty, Rockettes, famed showplaces and two sports and entertainment networks – to brighten the lives of children and their families. Throughout the week, children from across the tri-state area become honorary members of the Knicks and Rangers, participate in game-night activities and learn choreography from the world-renowned Rockettes. The week also features the Foundation’s Giving program and a Day of Service for employees of MSG and MSG Networks.

Rangers Garden of Dreams Holiday Dinner 2017

New York Rangers and Garden of Dreams hosted their annual holiday dinner at National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey for 250 children and families from the Department of Homeless Services. Catered by TAO, the delicious meals were served by Rangers players Brady Skjei, Boo Nieves, and Rangers alum Ron Greschner. After dinner, the children and families enjoyed the interactive, three-dimensional underwater excursion as well as music and dancing.

Children from various Garden of Dreams partner organizations including Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Make A Wish Hudson Valley, New York Presbyterian, and NYU Medical Center, participated in various game elements including ceremonial puck drop, National Anthem, honorary stick kids, and honorary Blue Crew member.
